"How Search Engines Work?"

In most of the cases, it search engines that will bring your affiliate website to the notice of visitors. Hence it is better to know how these search engines work and how they present information when your potential customer performs a search.

There are two types of search engines. The first is by robots called crawlers or spiders.

Search Engines use spiders to index websites. When a search engine finds your page (through a link on another website), the search engine spider will index your entire site. A ‘spider’ is an automated program that is run by the search engine system.

When a spider visits a website, it read the content on the webpage; the site's Meta tags and also follow the outbound links (links from this website to other websites).

When the spider finishes all these tasks, he returns all that information back to a central depository, where the data is indexed. The spider will not only visit each link that you have on your website, but it will index those sites as well.

Some spiders will not index every pages of your website, but only a limited number.

The spider will return often to the sites to check for the latest updates. The search engine’s moderators determine the frequency with which this happens.

A spider can index up to a million pages a day. Think of a spider like a book where it contains the table of contents, the actual content and the links and references for all the websites it finds during its search.

When you perform a search for a topic you are interested in, the search engine is not searching the entire web, but it is actually searching through its own index that he has created.

Each search engines uses different algorithm to search and rank websites, this is the reason why your site will have different ranking on other search engine than Google for example.

Note that a search engine algorithm scans for is the location, frequency and relevance of keywords on a web page. It can also detect artificial keyword stuffing or spamdexing, so stay away from Black Hat techniques to trick them.

The algorithms are also able to analyze the way that pages link to other pages in the Web. Like that, they can determine what a page is about, if the keywords of the linked pages are similar to the keywords on the original page.
